Valentine's Day: A New And Improved Attitude

So, here we are again. Yet another Valentine's Day for which I am single. Normally, I would bemoan this fact and be in a grumpy mood for the whole day, but seeing as how I'm being more positive in life, I decided I'd do what I do best. Do something nice for someone else.

I give you that something:

I apologize that it's sideways, but I can't figure out how to fix that. If you'd like a better view, follow this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHrtnz69ezM

So, my plan is this: I spent all weekend making this, and I'm going to carry it around with me tomorrow and give it to a stranger. Why a stranger, you ask? I think it must be a stranger because a random act of kindness means more if it's fleeting, unexpected, and from someone you don't know. I don't really have a plan as to how I'm going to pick this stranger, but I'll know when I find him/her. I'll just walk up, maybe introduce myself, maybe tell them what this is all about, then say Happy Valentine's Day and give it to them. The two outcomes I see are 1) I did a nice thing for someone, and they appreciate it or 2) I did a nice thing for someone and they think I'm batshit crazy. Either way, I did a nice thing, which was the whole point.

So, random stranger, I hope you enjoy this, because it took me a hell of a long time to make it. It's not perfect, but that is the unique beauty of handmade items.

And just think, if I spent all this time and work on a stranger, what might I do when I actually have a Valentine? Stay tuned until next year to find out. :)

The Positivity List

It's been a while since I last blogged, and that's because I haven't felt like I've had anything important to say. I realized tonight that not every blog I write has to have some deeper meaning or message. So, I decided to blog about the things that are going well in my life right now, in the hopes that, later on, if I hit a rough patch, I can look back and take stock of the positives.

So, after the fiasco with Financial Aid, a friend of mine stepped in and offered me a job. That makes three part time jobs for me now. The Distance Learning Center (new), the costume shop, and teaching (both with the After School Strings Program as well as private students). Let's see what else? Oh! I'm enrolled in Jazz I and Modern I and I'm having such a good time! Last semester I changed minors from music to dance, and I've been happier ever since. The fact that I'm stretching/moving every day is really helping my shoulder. I'm not cured yet, but I can see a marked improvement...I'm not crippled after symphony rehearsals.

The best thing to be going on right now is I've been dating a really cute guy. Well, I guess that comes across a little strong. We've been on two dates, with a third one to come this Friday. Things are going great so far, and he wants to meet my friends, that's a good sign right? He's funny, and smart, and just as busy as I am. We both understand that we don't need to be around each other 24/7 from the get-go.

On another note, not pun intended, I'm acting principal cellist for the Idaho State Civic Symphony this semester! And I'm getting paid for it! The real principal is in Sweden with his wife, who was awarded a Fullbright Scholarship to go over there and teach.

I'm sure there are many more things and people that are contributing to my happiness, but no more are coming to mind. If you know you have helped, and feel you should be mentioned here, know that, even though my brain forgot you, my mood hasn't!

Until next time, here's a little quote:
"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."
